Be Smart, Act Fast, Get Rich: Your Game Plan for Getting It Right in the Stock Market

This book can teach the individual how to fish. Charles does not just feed the masses like the current guru with the usual "go long, go short, buy this call or this put of Xyz Company". The book shows that he wants everyone to be able to capitalize on the American dream and has provided the road map.
If you are responsible for your own retirement and following the latest guru you recognize that you have to do something. If you are a new investor you also have decided that you have to do something different then survive on your 401(k) or 403(b).
Charles Payne's just does not tell you how to do it. He has the experience and background of doing it. He walks you through the details. He has put his own money and name on the line to help everyday people get into enjoying his or her own dreams by using the American capitalist system.
Whether you are looking to go it alone or need advanced knowledge to take care of your own investment strategies this is the book for you. .

Comedy Writing Step by Step: How to Write and Sell Your Sense of Humor

This is probably the best book about writing stand up comedy I've read. It really explains to you in detail not only how to write stand up comedy material, but how to write for sketch comedy and sitcoms. You can also get more jokes per topic with Gene Perret's method than any other joke writing method I've seen. This book in my opinion even surpasses Stand up Comedy the book by Judy Carter, because you can get more jokes with Perret's mehod and it tells you how to prepare and overcome the dreaded writer's block, even though I do reccomend Judy Carter's book, I suggest you read Comedy Writing Step by Step first.

Sagramanda (A Novel of Near-Future India)

At the start of bestseller Foster's lighthearted techno-thriller (after 2006's The Candle of Distant Earth), runaway scientist Taneer Buthlahee and his gorgeous Untouchable lover, Depahli, are planning a marvelous life far from the city of Sagramunda, India—with the cash Taneer hopes to make on the stolen fruits of his mysterious research. To help broker the deal, Taneer hires fixer Sanjay Ghosh, a determined former farmer with big dreams of his own. Hot on Taneer's trail are a company operative with orders from Taneer's former employer to do whatever's necessary to get the stolen goods back, as well as Taneer's father, who's sworn to kill his son for dishonoring the family with his theft. Also along for the ride are a Hindu fundamentalist drug addict bent on offering plenty of sacrifices to her blood-loving goddess, the cop who's trying to catch her and a man-eating tiger. SF elements make colorful window dressing for this unpredictable thriller, whose multiple threads Foster juggles like the professional he is.

Nothing unites old enemies like new ones. This is especially true for the inhabitants of Panamindorah as they begin to set aside their differences to fight their true enemies. In Laven-lay, wolflings and wood fauns are sharing counsel for the first time in a generation. In Danda-lay, cliff fauns and cats have joined forces in a last desperate attempt to save the city from the swamp faun invaders. Time is running out to stop their true enemy. The ruin of Selbis is awaking to welcome her king. Gabalon is coming home. This is the third book in The Prophet of Panamindorah trilogy.

The Prophet of Panamindorah, Book II Wolflings and Wizards

Things have gone horribly wrong for the fauns at the spring festival of Lupricasia. A princess has been kidnapped, and visiting feline dignitaries have been blamed for the kidnapping. Corry, the young wizard shape shifter who saw the kidnapping, has been sent hurdling over a waterfall at a deadly height. Meanwhile the wolfling bandits who unwittingly hold the clues that would explain the kidnapping are about to be discovered by a bounty hunter and his employer, bent on their destruction.

The Prophet of Panamindorah, Book I Fauns and Filinians

Corry showed up at the orphanage two years ago, unable to remember how he'd gotten there. He spoke a language no one recognized, and he was afraid of cars and planes and computers. Corry can remember snippets of another life, but no matter how hard he tries to remember, it just keeps slipping away. Then one day, he meets a fauness in an orange grove. She's from a world called Panamindorah, and he can understand her language. In addition, Corry can read a language that no one in Panamindorah has been able to read for three hundred years. Has he really been gone that long? Now he must recover his lost memories and rebuild his life, because the person who tried to kill him once is about to try again. The Prophet of Panamindorah is for readers and listeners 13 and older.

Is this Love?

On University Avenue in Palo Alto in the 1970’s there was a bar called the Shutter, where I hung out with my graduate student friends. We could just afford it if we didn’t drink much.  I was in East Asian Studies and my friends Jay and Sheldon were in English; we were ABD’s—all but dissertation. The bar was a decent place to sit and argue ideas, not too loud to hear ourselves talk.

On a night that was in all other ways like many nights before it, a woman came in alone who made everyone in the place stare and then try not to.

For Adam

This morning I found an extraordinary thing. It was a letter from Adam to a woman named Jessica—a love letter, pure and simple—and though it has no date I am sure it was written not long ago. It had to be written by someone over the age of twenty; and twenty-five, the age he amazingly is now, would be a lot more believable. I picture him sitting in this cabin not so long ago, this place where we used to come, his mother and I, eons ago, before. Where he came when he was a little boy, and she was still alive, and I had no idea that the happiness of those years was still the exception and not, as I imagined, the new rule of my life.

Over the Fence

I remember I was next to the back fence when I almost died. I was in the back yard, doing nothing, wandering around scuffing my feet in the old leaves that were spilling off of the pile that I had put there the previous fall, and what was I thinking? Nothing cosmic enough for such an occasion. I was probably thinking about work without meaning to, or trying to figure out why Ellen was feeling however she was feeling, and then I found myself lying on the ground by the back fence, my face turned toward the house.

Mortal Ghost

It's a fiery hot summer, and sixteen-year-old Jesse Wright is on the run. An oddly gifted boy, he arrives in a new city where the direction of his life is about to change. He's hungry and lonely and desperate - and beset by visions of a stranger who is being brutally tortured. And then there are Jesse's own memories of a fire ...

The Spring

The Spring is the story of eight friends approaching the end of their senior year of high school. Preparing for graduation should be an exciting time, but as they look forward to college, fall in and out of love, and just try to endure their last days of high school, they discover the old bonds of friendship that held them together are falling apart. Can their friendships survive their dreams and hopes for the future? It's a little bit angsty, a little bit funny, a little bit philosophical, and a little bit romantic.

Leah

Introverted and shy, 14-year-old Leah Nells has lived her life alone, with only books to keep her company. As she starts 9th grade, she finds herself lost within the complicated social universe of high school — especially when she falls in love with a boy from her class. Under pressure from her parents, her classmates, and the whole noisy world, can she become the girl she wants to be?

The Untimely Demise of an Excellent Customer

For Deborah Peregrin, owner of a small-town jewelry store, life is simply chugging along. She makes custom creations for the well-heeled and tangles with the common heels. When one of her best customers, Mae Griffiths, turns up dead of a cocaine overdose, Deborah can't sit back and accept the verdict of suicide. After all, the tragedy happened on the very night Mae was to acquire Deborah's latest creation, and no woman in her right mind would kill herself when anticipating a stunning handmade necklace! Frustrated with the local police department, Deborah sets out to find Mae's murderer. A brush with certain death, a night in jail in Mexico, and the possibility of romance await her.

The Bell Rock Mystery

The story opens with WPC Kate Wood sorting through the archives of New Scotland Yard (modern day). She finds a set of notes on a case, the facts of which were never made public… On Christmas Eve 1888 Chief Inspector Herbert Kitchener arrives in an Edinburgh Police Station. He has been sent to reconnoitre the various Locations for Queen Victoria's Christmas Holiday. Whilst in the Station news comes through of a problem at the Bell Rock Lighthouse. The relief keeper has been locked out. The Lighthouse is needed as a beacon for the Royal Yacht arriving later that evening, Kitchener and the relief keeper go to the Rock to investigate. On arrival they find a locked door and inside two dead bodies, the Keeper and the First Mate. The engineer though cannot be found. As Kitchener investigates, the story of how he came to be with the Royal Party unfolds. The engineer appears and the mystery of the dead keepers, Jack the Ripper and an assassination attempt on Queen Victoria's life is revealed.

Eclipse

Edward's soft voice came from behind me. I turned to see him spring lightly up the porch steps, his hair windblown from running. He pulled me into his arms at once, just like he had in the parking lot, and kissed me again.

This kiss frightened me. There was too much tension, too strong an edge to the way his lips crushed mine—like he was afraid we had only so much time left to us.

As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob—knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death. But which is which?

The Host

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.

Wanderer, the invading 'soul' who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

Murder at Old Town: A Wally Dopple Mystery

With partner Krystal Findley and canine backup Manfred, he pursues wildly disparate leads in search of the killer. In the course of his investigation he probes the heart of a city that, like himself, is seeking a rebirth.

Deadly Assembly

Ray gets a .38-caliber revolver from his car and calls nine-one-one. Knowing Jacob Kriter well, he tries to appease the boy. After fourteen minutes, both weapons fire. One misses. The other does not. Ray is charged and goes on trial.

The Dead Man Adventures: A Series of Village Mysteries

Complete mystery novels set in a small town in Wisconsin. A front-page story in the Jefferson County Daily Union said: "Jim Rohrer, a part-time resident of Fort Atkinson and the author of three recently published mystery novels, draws his inspiration from everyday life ... even from this newspaper. In the headlines, the police reports and the community meeting listings, Rohrer has found sparks that set off "what-if" scenarios in his mind that eventually became the "Dead Man" mystery series." The reporter also wrote: "The books have a true sense of place, reflecting the issues, the culture and the language of a lot of small-town people from this area. An amusing combination of down-to-earth and ridiculous, they're full of funny regional observations, while still touching on real issues from more than one perspective."

Within: Confinement

In a future where the human race has become bloated and overconfident over the entire Sol system, no one questions the government’s discreet disposal of criminals. Having very much committed a crime herself, Alyson Valentine find herself enduring the harsh reality of her new home, the Longboat class prison ship Rigor Mortis. With no idea where the ship is heading, Alyson finds the issue of trust most valuable yet desperately unattainable in a world where no one is innocent, and everyone has secrets. A dark, unsettling survival story focusing around a group of prisoners whose only relation to each other is to survive against all odds. Psychotics, prison guards, an alien monstrosity and the very demons within themselves they must escape to survive, lest the darkness take them.

Sexy As Hell

When Baron Lenox's assignation with his mistress goes awry, he finds himself in bed with the wrong lady. The potential scandal leaves him with one option: marry the innocent mystery woman. But Isolde Perceval has no intention of marrying Lenox. In fact, she orchestrated the compromising situation herself-for reasons that are unpredictable, riotously romantic, and sexy as hell.

The Pendant

An alien scientist from another world wants to pass as human. It abducts a female college professor, and a year later, joins her for an extended stay.

The Switch

I have been a Sandra Brown fan from day one. Her romance novels have been some of the best I have ever read. Her early mainstream novels are better than her recent ones. If you read the inside flaps on the dust cover of "The Switch", you will basically know the story and the author does not stray far from the review. "The Switch" was a fair read but could have been so much better.
For starters this book was too long! (469 pages) This story could have been told with 100 less pages. There were few characters and the information relayed between them at times became repetitive. I did not find any surprises. The murderers are revealed at the time of the murders and the reader is aware of the diabolical plot and just tags along for the ride. By the time you are halfway through the book you should be able to figure out Melina's "dark secret". I questioned it at the very beginning. And spicy sex scenes? Ms. Brown just does not write them like she once did.
In short I found this book to be an OK read although predictable and a bit long. If you want to read one of her better novels try Charade or Exclusive. The Switch seemed to have so much potential but did not deliver for me.

Seeing Blind

Seeing Blind was so intense, I could not put it down. Katie Allen is a great author, I cannot wait for upcoming books. Five Stars!
Cassie thought that she had escaped from the psychic abilities that had haunted her all her life. After two years of vision-free bliss living on her small farm outside the tiny town of Napping, Cassie's only worry is her secret desire for the hot local sheriff, Ty.
But her quiet, anonymous life is destroyed when murder rocks the sleepy town and Cassie's visions thrust her into the middle of the grisly mystery. Reluctantly drawn into her own search for the killer, Cassie begins to unearth the town's tangled secrets with the dubious help of Napping's residents...and the sheriff whose mere presence is enough to make her blood boil.

Keeping the Moon

I loved this book! I recommend this book to anyone who loves to read. Keeping the Moon really makes you think about life. I enjoyed reading about Colie and her fitness trainer mom,Kiki Sparks.I also like reading about her Aunt Mira and her new friends that she made. They are Isabel, Morgan, and Norman. The characters seem so real. I think that teeneagers especially would like it because it has to do with a teenage girl and her life at school, and with other people. This book tells you all the hard times that she went through and how she kept going even though she didn't think she could. I'm sure that most people can relate to this book in a certain way. I really liked this book and I'd definitely read it again!

One-Two Punch

With 'Breaking the Silence' Katie Allen jumped to the top of my "must buy" list, and with 'One-Two Punch', she more than seals the deal. The writing is good, the plot is excellent, the romance is tender, and the sex is hot.
Where Katie Allen truly excels however, is in her ability to infuse her characters and writing with a sense of reality. I've been sitting here struggling with how to describe the extent of her talent. It's not that the plot is so true to life; let's face it, committed relationships between buff gym owners, beautiful former soldiers, and, well, how to describe Beth(?), aren't the everyday norm. The closest I can come is to compare it to a book I once read in which the main character, an author, infused so much detail and life into her primary characters that they came to life. (They ended up moving into her apartment and causing all kinds of trouble, but that's another story for another day.) Beth, Harry, and Ky really do jump off the page at you; and not only are they realistic, but they're people that you would want to know. Like Jenny and Will, (and who can forget Christian), from 'Breaking the Silence', the characters of 'One-Two Punch' would be welcome in my world. Of course, if I could be Beth or Jenny...
Rather than dealing with my bumbling attempt at description, buy 'One-Two Punch' and 'Breaking the Silence' and meet the characters yourself. You can never have too many friends.

How to Play Piano Despite Years of Lessons

After reading this book, I would have to say that there are some very good things about it, but also some not-so-good things. First the good stuff: good basic approach to explaining things like chord construction, progressions, sheet music, and how music is made. There are excellent illustrations, with many examples. There is particular emphasis on the circle of fifths and chromaticism and how it relates to chord progressions. Unfortunately, the book lacks a lot of music theory that would probably be important to the beginner(like me). I would have liked to see more treatment of scales and how to use them to improvise, as well as more information on voicings and altered chords. The book is focused on playing out of fake books, (i.e., play chords with one hand, melody with the other, which is a good approach, if that's what you're interested in.) But this piecemeal "playing songs" approach is pretty restrictive. The author relies a little too much on "skelton" bass-chord playing with the left hand, with block chords in the right. It's probably not the book for someone who wants to learn improvisation, or jazz. The book takes a very comical, almost flippant approach to music theory in general, which is good in some ways, but can also can be counter-productive. The humor certainly makes the learning easier, but the book continually says, "if it sounds good, play it," Which I see as a little skimpy in the "why" department of music. It seems too much like he's saying, "Well, you can do this, but if you don't like how it sounds, don't do it." A better method would be to say why it might not sound good, and what alternatives you can do instead. But this is still a good book, actually an excellent book, if you want to be able to play your favorite songs from fake books, and is probably a good stepping stone to more advanced music theory(which boggles my mind most of the time anyways).

The New Self-Sufficient Gardener

After 30 years of having gardens in small yards, crowded yards, shaded yards and "rented" yards we are finally in the position to tend 25 acres of land. It's ironic that the practices I've learned from the sustainable ag/permaculture/organic gardeners to make the most of my little gardens have now equipped me to grow more than enough food for our family in less than an acre! What to do with all that other space???? That said, I've been working my way through my "oldies but goodies" garden book collection and picking up revised editions where possible and reading new authors as well to see how I can make the most of every bit of garden space I have in an effort to leave the remainder of my land naturalized. This edition now ranks as my favorite all-around comprehensivegarden book (and that is a high honor because I have some absolutely brilliant and useful books on my shelf). I cannot believe how much valuable information, beautiful illustrations and new-to-me hints, techniques and ideas I've picked up from this book. On first glance, it looked like it was going to be another book that presented basic information on overall gardening with a little more detail when you get to the nuts and bolts of individual types of plants. Not so! He gives so many detailed instructions, illustrations and ideas for so many plants and techniques that I'm actually a little overwhelmed. What I love most is that these are tips and techniques that anyone--rich or poor, strong or weak, with great tools or a $1 tree spade, some seeds and a space in the sun--can use to grow a beautiful, nutritious crop of food AND create a healthier, more productive environment as well. I cannot imagine any gardener not enjoying this book and finding something useful to apply in their own garden.

Oribana Delight - Paper Flowers and Vases

A Collection of Original Designs.

The Adult Joke Book

So far I have only read the first chapter and by the title I was expecting a lot more raunchy jokes to be contained between the covers, however I was proven wrong. Yes there are some of those off-color jokes in this books but there are also some really good ones that are pretty clean. The only problem I have with this book is trying to remember all these jokes.
